So you want to be an AirBNB Host. Start with your WHY?

The AirBNB site has a good checklist that everyone should read and review first. If you have not already ready the official airbnb details for getting started as a host, you can check them out by clicking here: https://www.airbnb.com/d/hosting_checklist.

If you want to refer back to the official airbnb list later, then read on for my perspective and steps I take, have shared with others, and my own personal experience along my journey as an airbnb host and some insight into what you can expect along your journey to becoming an airbnb host. Whether you are just starting out or if you are a seasoned real estate professional and property manager, I can help!

As an experienced landlord and airbnb host, the very fist place I recommend you start is to think about what your goals and objectives are for becoming an airbnb host – start with and define your “why”

  • are you looking to monetize empty rooms in your home to help pay the mortgage?
  • do you have a rental property that you need to fill a vacancy?
  • are you looking to just make a few extra hundred dollars per month to help pay extra expenses?
  • are you comfortable sharing your home and personal space with other guests?

The first thing you should do is start with your “Why” and define your objectives and goals first – “Why do you want to become an AirBNB Host? A lot of people start with the “What” first and then they try to go back and answer their “Why” later. It is always better to define your goals and objectives for becoming a host first so that you can become the best host you can be and provide your guests with the best experiences they can have staying with you. Your “Why” can be simple at first and then it can grow and change over time. Write down the reasons “Why” you want to become a host and refer to them so you can look back and modify your goals as needed. In my discussions with other first-time hosts and experienced hosts, their “why” has different and unique meanings. Some people want to get into hosting to experience becoming a landlord, purchase property and manage tenants. Some people are just looking to help off-set mortgage expenses, and others just want to make some extra spending cash each month. Whatever your reason is, write it down and start there.

Here is the book I recommend for pointing you on the path to starting with Why by Simon Sinek. Yes, this is an Amazon Affiliate Link to the book, but yes, I own it and I love it.
